Professional qualifications:
July, 2002-till date: Post
doctoral fellow, Karolinska Institute,
Principal projects:
1)
Studying the
expression pattern of novel genes by tagging with green fluorescent protein.
Making knock out mutants by a double stranded RNAi approach and study of
deletion mutant by outcrossing and PCR. Co-author of manuscript entitled: The
nematode unique gene, qua-1, is
responsible for controlling molt in C.
elegans (submitted)
2)
Database mining
studies to determine evolutionary profiles of Homeobox genes and to identify
the entire complemet of Homeobox genes in completed genome projects. Using
techniques like multiple sequence alignment, manual exon and intron boundary
prediction, maximum likelihood approach for tree building, detection of
conserved motifs, evolution of protein coding sequences by Positive Darwinian
Evolution, I have analysed the entire homeobox gene complements of several
organisms, identifying many previously unidentified genes and unrecognized
motifs in the process. Co-author of manuscripts: i) Comprehensive analysis of
plant homeobox genes reveals new classes, new domains
and dynamic adaptations in monocots and dicots by Krishanu Mukherjee et al.
(manuscript under preparation). ii) Krishanu Mukherjee
and Thomas Burglin, Plant homeodomain proteins contain a sensory domain
(submitted).
1995-2002: Scientist
(Assistant Professor) in the Division of Molecular Virology, Central Potato
Research Institute,
Project summary: Detection and strainal identification of various potato viruses
and viroids through RT-PCR, nucleic acid hybridization (NASH), Western
blotting, Cloning and sequencing, multiple sequence alignment, phylogenetic
studies, secondary structure prediction and determination of conserved motifs
within protein sequences. Plant
virus purification in bulk and production of polyclonal antisera against them,
purification of Immunoglobulins and preparation of ELISA kits.
1997-1998: Post Doctoral
Fellowship awarded by Indian Government Department of Biotechnology, to
work on Genetic Transformation of potato at
Project summary: Osmotin gene conferring resistance to Phytophthora infestans was initially subcloned and
then finally cloned into Agrobacterium Plant Expression vector (PGA643). Late
blight susceptible potato variety (Darjeeling Red Round )
was transformed and stably transformed lines were found by PCR and Southern
hybridization.
